Marielle, Rich & I are playing euchre as near hurricane-force winds batter our beach house (I think we chose the wrong coast for our December beach vacation).
Marielle & Dad cannot agree on one euchre rule – can anyone help solve their argument? Google is not giving us a definitive answer:
When playing euchre, if you cannot follow suit, and you have a trump card, do you have to play it?

You never have to play trump unless trump is lead. Unless, house rule says you must trump if you do not have the lead suit in your hand.
Or, maybe you have to play your trump until after the flop and before the river card is played.
Hey, I’ve even played where the first card lead had to be a trump.
No, I think if you have all 4 deuces all the other players have to discard their trump.
Oh, I don’t know. Maybe bridge would be a better game. Or, better yet, take up bowling!!!
And stay bundled up. Three weeks from today I’ll be on the beach, too. I’m certainly looking forward to that.
John wrote the crazy reply! You don’t have to trump in euchre. Happy beaching it, Brown/Gernerts. Marielle, we look forward to you becoming Midwesterner!
Marielle, if you grow tired of the Midwest just let us know and you can head to Nashville for a while for some Southern hospitality!!
Marielle, what happened? Was Korrie counting chickens before they hatched or did you decide not to take this job? Keeping our fingers crossed that the right thing will come along soon. Love you, J & K
